The Seattle Storm joined the Houston Comets and Minnesota Lynx as four time WNBA Champions last night with a devastating second half that sunk the Las Vegas Aces 92-59 to complete a three game sweep that earned Seattle it's second title in three seasons.
The duo of Finals MVP Breanna Stewart and Jewell Lloyd led the way for Seattle...Stewie, who battled foul trouble, finished with a game high 26 when Seattle outscored Vegas 32-14 in the third to ice the victory....Stewart averaged 28.5 points per game while shooting just shy of 63% in the three games in winning her second ring and finals MVP. Of course we here in Connecticut know of her ability to "rise to the occasion" on the game's biggest stages.
Lloyd scored 19 and hauled down 9 boards for the Storm...she averaged 18.3ppg in the Finals....And the ageless wonder, point guard Sue Bird added 7 more assists to total 33 in the three game sweep. For Sue, her 4th WNBA Championship, all with Seattle (2004, 2010, 2018, 2020)
WNBA Regular Season MVP Aja Wilson led the Aces with 18 and averaged 19ppg in the three games....
Per the JI's Carl Adamec, with Morgan Tuck joining Bird and Stewart on Seattle, that makes 16 former Huskies who have now won at least one WNBA Championship. Bid and Maya Moore with 4 each, Swin Cash and Diana Taurasi with 3 apiece leading the way...The Storm was the only team in the wubble to have it full roster when the season began in Bradenton, Florida and were the prohibitive favorite. Bird did sit some regular season games to rest her knee...
