It was a busy draft for all three local teams. The Giants could have found their face of the franchise for the next decade taking Saquon Barkley with the 2nd pick, the Jets could have drafted their franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold and the Pats were able to upgrade their offensive line and running game with their two first round picks taking Isaiah Wynn and Sonny Michell.
Giants Draft
With the 2nd pick the Giants had a tough choice between USC quarterback Sam Darnold and Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. They chose to take Saquon Barkley who should give the Giants a solid running game which will take pressure off Eli Manning. In the 2nd round they took guard Will Hernandez out of UTEP who many of draft experts thought would go in the first round, he should be a day one starter on the Giants offensive line . With their two 3rd round picks the Giants took Lorenzo Carter outside linebacker out of Georgia and B.J Hill defensive tackle out of NC.State. In the 4th round the Giants took a quarterback who could eventually become Eli Manning's replacement with Kyle Lauletta out of Richmond .
Jets Draft
It was pretty obvious in March when the Jets traded up for the 3rd pick with the Colts that they were drafting a quarterback. With that pick they did taking Sam Darnold he should start the year sitting behind Teddy Bridgewater or Josh Mccown but he should be the franchise quarterback the Jets have needed for years. The Jets went local with their 2nd pick in the 6th round taking defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi out of Uconn he's the only Uconn football player to be drafted this year.
Patriots Draft
The Pats came into this draft with two first round picks they needed to improve their offensive line and running game because they lost left tackle Nate Solder and running back Dion Lewis to free agency. The Patriots were able to do both by taking two Georgia guys, Isaiah Wynn who played both guard and tackle for the Bulldogs and running back Sonny Michell. New England also came into this Draft needing to draft a successor for Tom Brady they waited all the way until the 7th round to do so taking Danny Etling out of LSU.
