2018 FIFA Awards

Would you believe it? For the first time since 2007, someone not named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo won the Best Male Player at the FIFA Awards. It seems like every year these guys are in consideration and one of them wins in a toss up. This year the award went to Luka Modric, Ronaldo’s former teammate at Real Madrid. After an outstanding performance at the World Cup for Croatia, Modric proved that he deserved the top honor given out by FIFA. The man had to play under the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo for years at Real Madrid, but that never slowed him down. Now that he is the player to break through and take the Male Player of the Year Award from Messi and Ronaldo, we may be seeing more players climb to the upper echelon of soccer.
