Manchester, CT Native Moe Morhardt was a two sport athlete and All American in both at UConn. Baseball as an outfield and in Men's Soccer....Moe was a baseball All American in 1959 and spent a few seasons in the Chicago Cubs organization where he played 25 games total between 1961 and 1962 as a first baseman and pinch hitter.
In 1967 Moe came back to Connecticut to devote his time to Coaching in High School at The Gilbert School in Winsted. Where he didn't just coach baseball, he was your three sport coach where he also headed the boys basketball and soccer coach. While Coaching in Winsted, his teams played in 5 Class M Baseball Championship Games...Losing in 1970 & 72, winning in 1973, 76 and 79'.
Coach Morhardt returned to the college ranks when he joined Don Cook and eventually Dan Gooley as an assistant at the University of Hartford before becoming the Head Coach in 1993. He spent two seasons as the head man where he split with his Alma Mater....After a brief respite, D3 Western CT State University comes calling for Moe where he spent three seasons in Danbury...But the NECBL's Danbury Westerners is where Morhardt had his most success between 1998 and 2004. Three trips to the Semi's and one trip to the finals.
