UConn Legends - George Greer - A two time baseball All American 1967-68

In the late 1960's, UConn outfielder George Greer was the program's first two-time All American. 1967 where he played in the Pan Am Games and win gold...then again in 1968 where in 68' he was chosen by the St Louis Cardinals. In four years in the organization, the highest stop was Triple A Tulsa.

Greer's Coaching Career actually started with the Cape Cod League in 1979 with the Cotuit Kettleers..Which if curious is located on the South- Southwest End of the Cape....Where he had success between 1979 and 1987 coaching the likes of Will Clark, Ron Darling, John Franco and Joe Girardi.

During the stint in 1982, Greer started Coaching College Baseball in the Carolinas as Davidson where he spent 6 years with the Wildcats. Then off to Winston-Salem where he spent 17 years as the Head Man at Wake Forest. Between the two schools, he amassed over 600 wins...The Decs best years 1998-2001 where Wake won three ACC Tournament Titles in 4 seasons...The 1999 Team reaching a Super Regional where they lost to Miami.

The Mets and Cardinals came a calling where he went between the minors and majors as a Coach, finally getting the call to be on the Cardinals Major League staff in 2018..That ended at the conclusion of the 2019 season....

I've actually had the honor of meeting Coach Greer during my first road trip with UConn Women's Basketball in November 2001. Former Husky Baseball Great Randy Lavigne was my broadcast partner at the time and of course we had to drive over to Wake's Baseball Facility to stop by and say hi....A gentleman of the game and a Husky for life.. Westerly, RI native George Greer...
