UConn Legend - 2x MSOC All American Defender Julius James

There are only a handful of UConn Men's Soccer Players who have earned First Team NSCAA All American Honors multiple times....A rock on the defensive third of the pitch from 2004-2007 was one of those special players....#3, Julius James..

Born in raised in Trinidad, James came to UConn in the fall of 2004 and immediately made an impact on defense. The Huskies 12-8-3 and just 5-4-1 in the Big East, but it was enough to get into the Conference Tournament in which the Huskies didn't allow a goal in two games in winning the Tourney and earning an NCAA Bid..And in a year the Huskies allowed just 0.83 goals per game, UConn got to the second round, beating Marist and losing to Boston College...James even scored twice that season, one of them a game winner...Earning College Soccer News Freshman All America Status and All New England/Northeast...

The 2005 Team won both the Big East Regular Season and Tournament Titles for Coach Ray Reid in a 16-3-2 year that saw the Huskies allow just 0.56 goals per game in posting 14 shutouts...James again even scored a pair of goals in a season the Huskies got to round two of the NCAA's...but after beating Stony Brook, would lose to Akron on PK's in round two....James earning Big East Defensive Player of the Year Honors...2nd Team NSCAA All America Honors and a second All New England/Northeast Choice....

2006 was a down year record wise for the Huskies, just 10-7-2, but they squeaked into the Tournament, losing to Fairfield 2-1 where James scored UConn's lone goal...The Huskies allowed 1.12 goals per game...Still, James earning his second straight Big East Defensive Player of the Year award....a third time All New England/Northeast and for the first time in 2006, James named an NSCAA First Team All American....

2007, UConn had a heck of a season..20-3-1...where the Huskies fashioned win streaks of 7, 5 and 8 en route to winning both the Big East Regular Season and Tournament Titles...And this year of 2007, some success in the NCAA's, shutting out both Vermont (2-0) and USF (5-0) before a 1-0 loss to Virginia Tech...The defense, rock solid again, cut the goals against to 0.53 goals per game. James a goal and assist in his senior year...Taking a third straight Big East Defensive Player of the Year award, a 4th All New England/Northeast Team and for the second straight year, being named an NSCAA First Team All American as one of the best defenders to play at UConn.

Following Graduation in the Spring of 2008, Julius James was the 9th overall pick of Toronto FC and was injured in the preseason...but managed to play 13 games...Had stops in Houston, DC United and Columbus through 2012 before playing in the "minors" until 2017...Today, the UConn Grad is back in his native Trinidad playing for FC Motown of the National Premiere Soccer League...

But we know from 2004-2007, defender Julius James was an anchor on the back line, a two time All American and a UConn Legend....
