December Delirium

There is a reason the MLB and NBA try to dodge the month of March. Baseball opens up in April. The NBA starts its playoffs in April. They know that NCAA Hoops owns the month of March. Why wouldn't an even more popular college sport own the month of its post-season?

44 bowl games - coaching changes - Opt outs

These issues have watered down the end of one of the most popular American sports. It is a no-brainer to expand the playoffs. I believe it is a "no-brainer" to construct the college football playoffs just like ALL the other NCAA sports. Conference Champs (10) and at-large teams get into a 16-team field that last 4 weeks in December. I believe you can satisfy 7 major bowl games with the last 3-weeks of the playoffs. The top-seeded teams should also earn a home game for the 1st round. The argument of "too many games for these poor kids" would arise. D2/D3/NAIA/FCS already have longer post-seasons. You could also drop your regular season games from 12 to 11 or dare I say 10. However, after they see the final tally of revenue share from TV rights and ad deals, they will do what they got to do to have this tournament.

Regardless of how you workout the details, here is what a 16-team field would look like for December Delirium 2021
