UConn Legend - WSOC All American Brittany Taylor 2007 & 2009

At Washingtonville High School in Campbell Hall.NY...near Middletown off I-84, Brittany Taylor was rewriting the rule books when it came to scoring goals in girls soccer....36 in a season and 127 career that earned her High School All American Status and State Player of the year Honors...not to mention some involvement in the USA Soccer Developmental U-17 and U-20 Teams. Next stop, Storrs and a shot to play at UConn...

The Four-Time, First Team All Big East Selection was an impactful forward in her first two seasons at Morrone Stadium playing for Len Tsantiris. In a 15-5-2 (10-1 Big East) 2005, Taylor's first of her team high 8 goals came in the win over Maryland in OT...Seven of her tallies were game winners. The Huskies would suffer a tough 2-1 2OT loss to Boston University to end the year..

Taylor would add 7 more goals in 2006, where the Huskies would record an 11-7-4 season....Scoring twice in a 3-2 loss to national power North Carolina and adding a second two goal game against Providence...She also added a game winner against Duke...UConn would defeat Columbia in Round One of the NCAA's, but the dreaded PK's would haunt the Huskies in a 1-1 tie against Texas...as UConn was outscored 3-1 in PK's as Taylor was again a First Team All Big East Selection.

Brittany Taylor would start her transformation from Striker to defender in the 2007 season...where the Huskies allowed just 14 goals in a 22 game season where the Huskies finished 14-6-2 and tough to beat at Morrone Stadium. Taylor 2 goals and an assist that included a two point day against Providence...The Huskies made it to NCAA Quarterfinals in 2007 with wins over BC on PK's, Wake Forest and Stanford...Florida State beat the Huskies 3-2 in (2OT) to keep UConn out of the College Cup Final Four...Taylor's defense again earned her 1st Team All Big East and League Defensive POY Honors. Not to mention being honored as an NSCAA All American....It set up for a promising 2008, but an ACL tear would let that happen..

Back in 2009, Taylor would again anchor the UConn defense that went 11-8-2 and won a game in the NCAA Tournament. Five assists on the season for #13, and one goal...it was a biggie. The game winner in OT and lone goal that beat B.U. at the 101:05 mark to open the NCAA Tournament...But B.C. would end the Huskies hopes in 2009 with a 2-0 defeat. Once again Taylor earning Big East Defensive Player of the Year Honors and First Team Conference Honors...And coming off injury, a Third Team NSCAA All American ...In her four seasons on the pitch at UConn, 18 goals, 9 assists for 45 points...189 shots and 9 game winners. Brittany Taylor would be the 6th overall pick in the WPS Draft by Sky Blue FC.

Between 2010 and 2017, Taylor would play for four different clubs, ending with FC Kansas City in 2017...Scoring 8 goals in 139 games...She left the game after the 2017 season to take a break from the game, where she got married in September 2017. Today, she is back in Eastern New York as the Head Coach for Women's Soccer at Marist College, her first Head Coaching Position...Hopefully she has a season to Coach.....
